Tradition continues in 2026. This year, we're taking a moment to recognize the incredible individuals who first brought the Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race to life.
Their creativity, dedication, and vision created a tradition that has brought smiles, laughter, and community spirit to generations of families. Because of their passion, this event has become one of Riverhead's most beloved summer celebrations.
We will honor the founders George Gabrielsen, Ed Densieski, and Kevin Zaneski. With special honors to Kristina Gabrielsen and Laurie Zaneski.
Special acknowledgments made for the original judge Tom Gabrielsen who will also be judging this year’s event. And the longtime emcee, Anthony Coates.
Join us as we honor the original founders and makers of the Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race! Let’s celebrate the legacy they built, one cardboard boat at a time.

As tradition has it, year after year we have celebrated the most creative and prettiest boats, best dressed crews, and of course the best sinkers. Don’t forget about the Hula Hoop contest which keeps the ground just as exciting as our waters.
As we honor the history of this beloved event, we’re looking ahead to its future. Come down to the Peconic River this summer.
